Wichita Thunder News Release
EAGLES SHUT DOWN THUNDER- Scott Rozendal gave the Thunder a 1-0 lead just 3:18 into the game, before the Eagles scored five unanswered goals, rolling to a 5-1 victory in Colorado on Friday night. Chris Hartsburg and Sean Robertson led the Eagles with a goal and two assists each. The loss snapped Wichita's four game winning-streak over the Eagles, as well as their three-game winning-streak in Colorado.
THUNDER KNOCKS OFF OILERS- The Thunder jumped out to a 2-0 lead and never trailed, knocking off the Oilers 4-2 on Saturday night in Tulsa. Steve Dix, Ryan McLean, Joe Blaznek and Travis Clayton scored Wichita's goals, making a winner out of Dan Giffin, who made 29 saves in his pro debut.
INJURY REPORT- Defenseman David Starenky missed both games this weekend due to injury and is questionable for this weekend. Forward Ryan Lauzon missed Saturday's game, but is expected back in the lineup this weekend. The Thunder expects to add a new player to the roster for this weekend's games.
THUNDER MILESTONES- Jason Duda moved past Jonathan Dubois for fifth on the all-time CHL assists list with number 438, just one assist behind Travis Clayton...Clayton (721) and Duda (717) rank 3-4 on the all-time CHL scoring list behind only Joe Burton (985) and Doug Lawrence (875)...Joe Blaznek passed Mark Karpen for fourth on the all-time Thunder goal-scoring list with number 95...Daniel Tetrault passed Mark Strohack and tied Trevor Folk for eighth among all-time Thunder defensemen scoring with 61 points...Ryan McLean passed Derek Parker for second in Thunder history with his 48th career major penalty.
PENALTY MINUTES GALORE- The Thunder have had a tough time staying out of the Affordable Bail Bonds Penalty Box this season, ranking second only to Youngstown, averaging 49.25 penalty minutes per game. The Thunder lead the CHL with 61 minors, are second with nine majors and have been shorthanded a league-most 48 times. Despite the high number, Wichita's penalty killers have done an admirable job, ranking fourth in the CHL for penalty killing, at 85.4%. With 197 penalty minutes this season, the Thunder are now just 49 away from becoming the first team in CHL history to record 30,000 penalty minutes.
THUNDERBOLTS- Joe Blaznek is tied for third in the CHL with five goals and ranks fourth overall with 23 shots on goal...Rookie Dan Giffin ranks fourth among CHL goaltenders for both goals against average (2.00) and save percentage (.935)...The Thunder leads the CHL with nine power play goals and has scored a power play goal in all four games...Wichita leads the CHL with seven first period goals...Defenseman Kim Brandvold suited up at forward on Saturday and recorded his first pro assist...Rookie Jeremy Koning has three points in his first three pro games...Steve Dix picked up his first Thunder goal on Saturday...All fans in attendance this weekend will receive a 2006-07 Thunder Magnet Schedule sponsored by Crazy Jay's Bed Shop, Red Robin Diner and KAKE TV-10.
