Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
BUGS OPEN AT HOME WITH A BANG-
The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs rarely get the chance to play a rival the caliber of the Laredo Bucks on opening night, but such was the case last Thursday. The Mudbugs trailed 2-0 after one period but were able to rally stronger than ever in the second period. They kick-started their powerplay on goals by Chris Brassard and Dan Wildfong. Then Ryan Fairbarn netted his first goal in a Mudbugs uniform on the power play to give the Bugs the lead. Karlis Zirnis would tack on one more powerplay goal in the third period. Daniel Pegoraro would later score his first professional goal and the Mudbugs' only even strength goal of the game. The game winded down with a line brawl between all 12 skaters in the final minutes of the third period.
MUDBUGS EARN ONE POINT IN TWO GAMES VS. MEMPHIS-
Friday and Saturday's games versus Memphis at the Desoto Civic Center would prove to be a difficult challenge for the Mudbugs. Memphis goaltender Larry Sterling performed strong in net, allowing only one goal in Friday's game. Derek Campbell and Darryl Stoddard came up with short range goals in the first period, scoring on rebounds against Ken Carroll. Ryan Held scored for the River Kings once again in the second. The only Mudbugs goal came late in the third period. Chris Brassard scored the first short handed goal of the year to spoil the shutout for Sterling.
Game two on Saturday night was as gritty a game the Mudbugs have played all year. Bossier-Shreveport got on the board early when Karlis Zirnis let a shot go from the right wing that darted through traffic and past Larry Sterling in the first period. Memphis would answer only minutes later on three-on-two break as Ryan Campbell beat John DeCaro to even the game. Both teams battled it out for the remainder of the game and a five minute overtime period. Travis Banga came through for the River Kings in the fourth round of the shootout with what amounted as the game winning goal. Daniel Pegoraro had the last chance for the Mudbugs, but lost control of the puck before he could manage a shot. The Mudbugs went home with one point in the two game trip.
