Trenton Thunder News Release
(Trenton, NJ)- The Trenton Thunder, the Double-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, announced today that Waterfront Park in Trenton will serve as a collection point for new hats, visors and sunscreen to be donated to the victims, relief workers and volunteers who are cleaning up the recent flooding in Burlington County, NJ.
The Thunder have made an initial contribution of 500 visors and four boxes of sunscreen and will provide a pair of tickets to a future Thunder game to the 150 volunteers who are helping out with relief efforts. The team asks that fans drop off new baseball hats, visors or sunscreen at Waterfront Park on Friday, July 16. Flood victims and relief workers are in need of hats, visors and sunscreen to protect themselves from the sun and heat as they work to clean up from the flooding that devastated parts of Burlington County over the past few days.
Donations are being collected in the front office lobby at Waterfront Park. The lobby is located through the green door to the right of the ticket windows at the front of the stadium. The Thunder will begin a four-game series with the Portland Sea Dogs (Boston) tonight at 7:05 PM at Waterfront Park. The Thunder office opens at 9:30 AM and will remain open through the end of Friday's 7:05 game. All items will be donated on Saturday morning to Burlington County Chapter of the American Red Cross.
"The people of Burlington County have supported the Thunder for years and this is one simple way to help them in their time of need," said Thunder General Manager Rick Brenner. "The victims and volunteers are out there working hard to get this cleaned up and hopefully this will make their jobs a little easier."
The Burlington County Chapter of the American Red Cross, who is coordinating the emergency relief efforts, is not in need of food or water for the victims. People wishing to help but do not want to donate a hat, visor or sunscreen are asked to provide a monetary donation by calling the American Red Cross at 609-267-9595. Checks can also be mailed to: American Red Cross of Burlington County, 1632 Rt. 38, Mt Holly, NJ 08060.
The Thunder host the Portland Sea Dogs tonight at Waterfront Park beginning at 7:05. NY Yankee pitcher Kevin Brown will start for the Thunder in a rehabilitation assignment.
