Altoona Curve News Release

(ALTOONA, PA)- Curve second baseman Jeff Keppinger proved to be the star among stars as the Southern Division defeated the Northern Division 4-1 Wednesday night at the 2004 Eastern League All-Star Game at Prince George's Stadium in Bowie, MD.

Keppinger went 3-for-4 with a double and RBI for the Southern Division to earn the MVP honors. The outburst came at a key time in the second baseman's season. Despite entering the All-Star Break as the Eastern League's leading active hitter at .347, Keppinger has produced just three hits in his last 41 at-bats for the Curve.

Three other Curve players played key roles in the Southern Division victory. Pitcher Ian Snell earned the starting nod and recorded a scoreless first inning before departing. The right-hander yielded two hits, but struck out a batter.

Bryan Bullington followed up an impressive showing in Sunday's Major League All-Star Futures Game by tossing a 1-2-3 fourth inning. Bullington also posted a perfect inning at the Futures Game in Houston.

Outfielder Chris Duffy batted first and played the entire game in centerfield for the Southern Division, going 1-for-4 with a run scored.

Hometown favorite, Dave Crouthers of the Bowie Baysox, earned the win for the Southern Division squad after tossing a scoreless third inning. Binghamton Mets left-hander Neal Musser allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits in the third inning to get saddled with the loss.

The Curve All-Stars will rejoin their teammates for the opener of a four-game series on Thursday night against the Reading Phillies at Blair County Ballpark. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
