
Baysox absolutely trounce Navs

Norwich, CT- The Baysox opened the second half with a commanding victory over the Navigators, 12-3 to remain in second place. Walter Young smacked his 22nd homer of the season and knocked in four runs while Robert Averette picked up his third victory as the Bowie crushed Norwich to start the second half of the season.
Young, a recent participant in the Eastern League all-star game hosted by Bowie, started the second half of his season with a bang. He finished the day 2-for-4, including a three-run homer in the third inning, and scored one run to lead Bowie's 10 hit attack. Averette (3-0) gave up just two earned runs in 7 2/3rd innings of work to pick up the win. He allowed seven hits, walked one batter, and fanned three.
Josh Habel (3-8) was victimized for seven runs, just three earned, on six hits in five innings of work to take the loss. Habel walked one batter and struck out five and was hurt by some costly Norwich errors.
Ed Rogers chipped in three RBI and two runs scored and Val Majewski and Keith Reed drove in two runs apiece to help Bowie keep their hold on second place in the Southern Division.
Michael Cervenak led Norwich at the plate as he went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one RBI, and one run scored.
These two teams will be back at it again Friday night with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 PM (ET).
Baysox Notes: Walter Young is quickly closing in on Calvin Pickering's record of 33 home runs for the Baysox in a single season. Young who competed on Wednesday in the home run derby now has 22 home runs on the first day of the second half of the season. Walter is now within nine of reaching Pickering's mark of 33.
