New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Harrisburg, PA- The Harrisburg Senators scored three runs in the bottom of the 10th inning to rally past the New Hampshire Fisher Cats 8-7 Thursday night at Commerce Bank Park. Catcher Jason Belcher's bases-loaded sacrifice fly to right field scored Rich Lane with the winning run to help the Senators take the opener of a four-game series.
Harrisburg (31-60) erased deficits of 4-0, 5-2, and finally 7-5 to post the win. New Hampshire reliever Travis Thompson (1-1) allowed three runs in two-thirds of an inning to suffer his first Fisher Cat loss. The right-hander walked GJ Raymundo and allowed a single to Josh McKinley before yielding a two-run double to Larry Broadway (4-for-4, 4 RBI) that tied the game 7-7. Lane followed with a single to move Broadway to third base. Thompson then walked Jeremy Ware intentionally and induced a fielder's choice grounder from Juan Camillo before Belcher ended it.
Broadway also had a run-scoring single as part of the Senators three-run 8th inning that tied the game 5-5.
New Hampshire (51-40) opened up a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Anton French walked, stole second base and third base before Tyrell Godwin (2-for-5, 2 RBI) and Aaron Hill (3-5, 4 R, 1 RBI) connected for back-to-back home runs off Harrisburg starter Donnie Bridges.
Justin Singleton (1-for-4, 2 RBI) made the score 4-0 with a sacrifice fly in the third inning. He also broke up a 5-5 10th inning tie with a single that plated Hill. Danny Solano's bases loaded walk against winning pitcher Jon Searles (2-1) gave the Fisher Cats a short-lived 7-5 lead.
New Hampshire starter Gustavo Chacin (5 IP, 2 R, 2 ER, 7 H, 2 BB, 7 K) left with a 5-2 lead, but the bullpen squandered his chance to become the second 10-game winner in the Eastern League.
New Hampshire and Harrisburg play game two of the series Friday night at 6:35pm. Right-hander Josh Banks (1-3, 5.77) pitches for the Fisher Cats against righty Corey Thurman, who will be making his Eastern League debut. Coverage of the game begins at 6:05pm on the WKXL Fisher Cats Radio Network, available online at www.fishercatsradio.com and www.wkxlradio.com.
