Trenton Thunder News Release
Trenton, NJ- New Hampshire used another big inning - this time a five-run third- to take possession of first place from Trenton with a 10-4 win on Sunday evening from Waterfront Park. Kyle Drabek tossed six innings and held the Thunder (64-44) to one run as the Fisher Cats (65-44) won the final three games of the four-game series. The loss moves Trenton ½ game out of first place in the Eastern Division.
New Hampshire cashed in early with five runs in the third inning off RHP Adam Warren. The Trenton defense committed two errors in the frame both of which led to three unearned runs. Warren (3-1) went three innings and allowed five runs (two earned) on six hits.
Warren was replaced with George Kontos to start the fourth inning and the right-hander did not fare much better. After being reached for two runs in the fourth, Kontos walked Brian Jeroloman to lead off the fifth inning. The next batter, Jonathan Diaz knocked a double to left field moving Jeroloman to third base. Both runners were driven home on a two-run triple from Darin Mastroianni that increased New Hampshire's lead 10-1.
RHP Kyle Drabek (11-9) made his third start against Trenton this season and allowed one run on three hits and struck out three batters in six innings. Trystan Magnuson came on to pitch the seventh inning and allowed three runs on four hits including a two-run single by Justin Snyder to cut New Hampshire's lead to 10-4 at the end of seven innings.
After a day off on Monday, the Thunder travel to Reading to start a four game series with the R-Phils starting with a doubleheader on Tuesday at 6:05 PM. In the first game, RHP DJ Mitchell takes the ball for the Thunder and Reading will go with RHP Drew Naylor. In the second game, RHP Cory Arbiso gets the start, while the R-Phils turn to LHP Yohan Flande. Catch all the action on 107.7 FM WRRC The BRONC, or online at trentonthunder.com.
