Adirondack Thunder News Release
Glens Falls, NY - The Adirondack Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames, announced today that they have signed defenseman David Shields.
Shields, 24, joins the Thunder with four seasons and over 200 games of AHL experience under his belt with the Peoria Rivermen and Chicago Wolves. Shields spent the past two seasons with the Chicago Wolves, where he collected 21 points (5-16-21) over 97 games played. Shields scored his first career AHL goal on October 13, 2013 against San Antonio and made his AHL postseason debut later that season on May 10, 2014 in the Wolves' Western Conference semi-final tilt against the Toronto Marlies. Shields began his AHL career with the Peoria Rivermen from 2011-2013, where he played 107 games and collected nine points (0-9-9).
The Rochester, NY native also skated in 12 regular season and three playoff contests with the ECHL's Alaska Aces during the 2011-12 season. Shields was originally drafted by the St. Louis Blues in the sixth round, 168th overall, of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.
Prior to beginning his professional career, Shields spent four years in the OHL with the Erie Otters. During his time in Erie, Shields collected 72 points (16-56-76) in 250 games played. In 2011, the blueliner was named the best defensive defenseman in an OHL Western Conference Coaches Poll and was second leading scorer among defensemen on the Otters.
