IceMen Trade for Himelson, Bring Back Jordan Sims
September 28, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Evansville IceMen News Release
Evansville, IN - The Evansville IceMen, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Ottawa Senators and AHL's Binghamton Senators, and Head Coach Al Sims announced today that the IceMen acquired Andrew Himelson in a trade with the Greenville Swamp Rabbits for future considerations. Evansville also signed Jordan Sims to the roster, and invited six others to tryout when training camp begins October 2.
In a move to bolster the defensive corps, the IceMen traded for established ECHL defenseman Andrew Himelson, who spent the last season and a half with Greenville, where he tallied seven goals and 19 assists in 85 total games for the team formerly known as the Road Warriors. Following a four-year college career at Clarkson University in Potsdam, NY, the native of Monroe, NY joined the Tulsa Oilers in 2013-14, before a brief stint with the Knoxville Ice Bears in the SPHL. He finished that season in Greenville. Last year, Himelson skated in 50 games for the Road Warriors, where he scored six goals and added ten assists.
Former University of Connecticut standout Jordan Sims signed a contract to come back to Evansville for training camp, after finishing the 2014-15 season with the IceMen. The 5'11, 188 lbs. forward and son of Head Coach Al Sims compiled two goals and four assists in 19 games in Evansville after skating in five games for the Idaho Steelheads. Before making the jump to the ECHL, Sims started last season with the SPHL's Peoria Rivermen, where he put up 21 points (9-12-21) in 33 games.
The IceMen have invited six others to tryout for the team when training camp begins October 2, including goaltender Larkin Saalfrank, who participated in Evansville's free agent camp September 11-13. The Fort Wayne, IN native spent some time with the Fort Wayne Komets the last two seasons, appearing in one ECHL game in 2013-14.
21-year-old forward John Lidgett will also be at camp after completing his senior season at Colgate University last March. He'll be joined by former University of Alabama-Huntsville forward Doug Reid, winger Andrew Harrison, who played for Danville in the FHL last season, 24-year-old defenseman Scott Morongell and former Des Moines Buccaneers' (USHL) forward Danny Elser.
Evansville's training camp roster features 28 players (19 forwards, six defensemen and three goaltenders) when camp opens Friday, October 2.
