Thunder Put Up 20 Runs In Big Win At New Britain

New Britain, CT- Thunder hitters put on an offensive showcase, as they tied the single season record for runs scored in a 20-6 drubbing of New Britain on Friday night at New Britain Stadium. With the win and a New Hampshire loss, Trenton's (82-57) magic number to clinch the Eastern Division stands at one.

The Thunder wasted little time, as they plated four runs in the top of the first inning off RHP Bruce Pugh (0-2). The inning was highlighted by a pair of two-run doubles by Marcos Vechionacci and Rene Rivera. Trenton then put up six runs in the second and three runs in the third to go ahead 13-0 over New Britain. The Rock Cats were able to get on the board in the bottom of the third off RHP Dellin Betances, bringing in two runs on three hits. A solo home run by Steve Singleton in the fourth inning made the score 13-3 in favor of Trenton.

After picking up an additional run in the fifth inning, the Thunder stormed for five runs on five hits in the sixth inning, capped off by a two-run double by Austin Romine. Trenton scored one last run in the eighth inning to go up 20-6.

Daniel Brewer and Rene Rivera each finished the night with three hits. Brewer scored a single-game franchise record five runs and drove in four runs as well. Justin Christian extended his career high hitting streak to 17 games with a single in the first inning.

The Thunder and Rock Cats square off in the second game of the four game set on Saturday night starting at 7:05 PM. RHP Adam Warren will start for Trenton, as New Britain will throw RHP Kane Holbrooks. Catch all the action on 107.7 FM The Bronc or online at www.trentonthunder.com
