Four Right-Handed Pitchers Get Late-Season Promotions

New Britain, CT - The New Britain Rock Cats of the Eastern League announced four roster transactions today, in which four Pitchers are on the move on the final weekend of the 2010 Season.

RHP Carlos Gutierrez, the 23-year-old former 1st Round pick of the Minnesota Twins in 2008, has been promoted to Rochester in the International League. The 6'3"/210-pound hurler out of the University of Miami departs New Britain with 5-8 W-L record and 4.57 ERA. The Rock Cats' 2010 Opening Day starter, Gutierrez was converted in July to a bullpen role where the former Hurricane made 16 increasingly effective appearances. He tossed a total of 122 innings for the 2010 Rock Cats and finished with 2 Saves in 4 Opportunities. Baseball America's 2010 Prospect Handbook ranks Gutierrez as Minnesota's 7th Best Prospect. This will be his first visit to the Triple-A classification;

RHP Steve Hirschfeld, the 24-year-old product of San Diego State University, has been promoted to Rochester in the International League. The Moab, UT native experienced an unusual season in New Britain, suffering a leg injury in April that put him on the DL from May until early August. Primarily used in a relief role, the former 9th Round pick of Minnesota's in 2007 was subsequently switched to starter where, in three such appearances, he showed promise. He departs central Connecticut for his first Triple-A action with an 0-0 mark and 5.32 ERA after just 11 Double-A appearances;

RHP Kane Holbrooks, the 23-year-old product of Texas State University, joins the Rock Cats today from Ft. Myers in the Single-A, Florida State League. The 6'3"/230-pounder from Fort Worth, TX will be New Britain's starting pitcher tomorrow night against visiting Trenton. Selected by the Twins in the 21st Round of the 2009 Draft, Holbrooks tossed a total of 43.2 innings in Ft. Myers this season and departs Florida with a 3-3 mark and 2.27 ERA;

RHP Dakota Watts, the 22-year-old Oroville, CA native, was promoted to New Britain from Ft. Myers today. The 6'5"/201-pound bullpen specialist out of Cal-State Stanislaus posted a 4-2 / 3.19 mark in Florida this year. Watts was the 16th Round selection of the Minnesota Twins in the 2009 Draft.

All moves are effective immediately with all players expected to be in uniform with their new clubs tonight.
