Sens Sweep Doubleheader

The Harrisburg Senators swept a doubleheader against the Binghamton Mets in Binghamton on Friday evening, winning game one 9-1, and game two 3-1. The two wins, combined with Bowie's win over Akron, tied the Senators and the Baysox for the second playoff spot in the Eastern League's Western Division. Both teams now have a record of 75-64, with three games left to play for each.

In game one of the doubleheader, the Senators scored nine runs in the first four innings to break the game open. They scored three in the first, two in the third, and then four in the fourth, all against Binghamton starter Brandon Moore. The B-Mets scored one run in the sixth inning, but Tom Milone (12-5) pitched all seven scheduled innings, allowed just that one run on seven hits, and struck out nine to earn the complete game victory. Moore took the loss to drop to 0-1. The Senators had 12 hits in the ballgame, including three apiece from Stephen Lombardozzi and Chris Marrero. Michael Burgess and Jesus Valdez each had two hits, and Marrero and Burgess each drove in three of the nine runs for the Sens. Lombardozzi, Valdez, and Tim Pahuta each had one RBI in the win.

Game two was scoreless through four innings, as both Adrian Alaniz (1-0) of the Sens, and Mark Cohoon (5-4) of the B-Mets pitched well. The Sens got the first run of the ballgame in the top of the fifth inning off of Cohoon, on a solo homer by Burgess. Two more runs came across in the sixth, on an RBI single from Marrero, and a Devin Ivany sacrifice fly. Binghamton got a solo home run from Brahiam Maldonado to lead off the bottom of the seventh and final inning, but could not score again in the 3-1 loss. Despite giving up the home run, Cole Kimball picked up his 12th save by pitching the ninth. Marrero and Josh Johnson each had two hits in the win.

The Senators have three more games left in the regular season, all against Binghamton. The next scheduled contest is Saturday night at NYSEG Stadium in Binghamton, with a first pitch time of 7:05. Right-hander Brad Peacock (2-1, 4.50) starts on the mound for the Sens, against LHP Robert Carson (1-6, 8.74) of Binghamton.
