November 26, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Wichita Thunder News Release

After breaking a three game losing streak this past Wednesday, Wichita built a 3-0 lead and skated away with a 4-2 victory against the Tulsa Oilers Saturday night at INTRUST Bank Arena. The Thunder are on a three game winning streak and now sit in first place due to Allen losing to Bloomington this evening.

For only the second time in six meetings, Wichita scored first when Aaron Davis took a Colin Hemingway feed and added his third goal in two games and ninth of the season. Davis, who had two goals last night, has six points against the Oilers this year. Thomas Beauregard scored at 13:38 to make it 2-0 as Wichita controlled the puck in the offensive zone, Beauregard came free and put home his seventh tally of the year.

At 5:30 of the second period, Wichita increased its lead to 3-0 when Aaron Davis came in on the rush, found Brett Hemingway at the far post and he found the back of the net for his ninth on the season. Wichita was tremendous defensively, only allowing 11 shots through the first two periods. The Thunder controlled the play and arguably played its best game of the season, limiting the Oilers who were at the tail end of playing four games in five nights.

Wichita put the game out of reach in the third period when Andrew Martens tipped home a Matt Robinson pass at 6:51 and gave the Thunder a 4-0 lead. Martens had two points in the game and sits in second place behind Tulsa's Jeff Terminesi for most points scored by a defenseman with 16 (6g, 10a). Tulsa scored two goals midway through the third period, but Wichita was too tough down the stretch and won going away for its 11th win of the season. Thunder netminder Adam Russo stopped 20 of 22 shots and moves into a first place tie with Tulsa's Ian Keserich and Fort Wayne goalie Nick Boucher with eight wins.

Wichita will not play till next Friday when the Evansville IceMen come into town for the first time this season. Wichita and Tulsa will see each other a week from Sunday and then will not play again until Christmas in Tulsa. The Thunder return home to take on Evansville at 7:05pm on Friday, Dec. 2nd.
