MOLINE, Ill. - Charlie Effinger made 43 saves and Ed McGrane scored the game winning goal in the third period as the Missouri Mavericks defeated the host Quad City Mallards 2-1 Saturday night.

McGrane's tip-in snapped a 1-1 tie at 5:48 of the third.

The second period saw the Mavericks come from behind to tie the game when Dale Mahovsky scored from close range at the 11:08 mark.

It was the Mallards who had opened the scoring while on the power play when Jake Riddle pumped the puck home from the slot at 16:08 of the first period.

Despite creating a series of chances- including a Brandon Marino penalty shot with less than five minutes remaining- the Mallards failed to score in the second or third period as Effinger turned aside 36 Quad City shots over the final 40 minutes.
