Wichita Thunder News Release
St. Charles, MO - Steve Makway scored with under two minutes remaining in overtime to hand Wichita a 2-1 loss on Saturday night at The Family Arena in the first-ever meeting between the Thunder and the St. Charles Chill. Matt Robinson scored the only Thunder goal of the night and his fourth of the season. Wichita sees its record drop to 1-3-3 on the season and closes out a three-in-three tomorrow afternoon against Denver at home.
Wichita's road power play has been solid and was able to find the score sheet at the start of the second period. Anthony Perdicaro's cross checking minor carried over into the second and the Thunder capitalized. Matt Robinson put home a rebound at 2:24 with assists to Jon Booras and Thomas Beaureguard for the game's first lead. The Chill would answer four minutes later when Kyle Kraemer found Jordan Fox across the crease who was able to get it past Taylor Nelson which tied it at one.
Both teams had some chances down the stretch, but both goaltenders were up to the task as Robby Moss for the Chill kept the Thunder offense at bay and overtime was needed for the third time in the last four road games.
In the extra period, Makway caught a pass at the blue line, stepped away from a defender and put a seeing-eye shot towards Nelson that found its way in for the game-winner at 3:20 and a 2-1 win for St. Charles.
Booras extends his point-streak to six games with a helper on Robinson's fourth goal in three games. The Thunder's winless streak stands at four after tonight's overtime loss. Wichita is 1-2-3 in one-goal games and drops to 0-2 in games that finish in OT. Taylor Nelson takes the overtime loss, stopping 34 of 36 shots while Robby Moss stopped 23 of 24 shots he faced.
Wichita went 1-for-4 on the power play while St. Charles was 0-for-4.
Wichita returns home on Sunday afternoon at 5:05 p.m. to take on the Denver Cutthroats, which is Social Media Night presented by Integrity Home Solutions.
