Arizona Sundogs News Release

Prescott Valley, AZ - The Arizona Sundogs early surge in the first period wasn't enough against Rush in the Sundogs' sixth straight loss, this season with a 5-3 defeat at Tim's Toyota Center Saturday night.

Five goals were scored in the opening frame between both teams. Arizona lit the lamp 1:32 into the period with a power play goal by Kevin Baker, his third goal of the season and Dion Campbell and Damian Surma each picked up the assists. The Sundogs notched their second goal less than eight minutes later with a shot from Bryan Cameron and Paul Mcilveen on the assist. Arizona would be unable to keep Rapid City from pulling ahead after they answered back with three goals of their own and Konrad Reeder tallied a shorthanded goal. Rush's Ryan Palmer was issued a 10 minute game misconduct and an additional five minutes for a boarding call on Arizona's Brodie Zuk which resulted in Zuk being escorted off the ice. Sundogs team Captain Jason Morgan also received a 10 minute misconduct and two minutes for roughing after the hit on teammate Zuk.

Each team would head into the second period looking for the game winning goal which Rapid City's Reeder scored with less than five minutes left in the period. A minute later Zuk scored the Sundogs third and final goal of the night with assist from Morgan. With moments left in regulation Sundogs Head Coach, Kevin Colley pulled their goalie for the extra attacker which resulted in an empty net goal by Rapid City's Justin Sawyer, his second in two games.

Andrew Engelage made 15 saves in net tonight, while Rapid City's netminder blocked 30 shots. Arizona outshot Rapid City 33-21 and was 1-2 on the power play. Rush was 0-2 on their power play advantages.

The Sundogs take to the road next week where they will meet Rapid City again for a set of games before continuing on to Denver and St. Charles.
