Mavericks Win in Front of Record Breaking Crowd
November 3, 2013 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Kansas City Mavericks News Release
INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - The Missouri Mavericks defeated the Denver Cutthroats 6-2 in front of a record-breaking crowd at the Independence Events Center. The Mavericks offered standing room only tickets after completely selling out the home opener, and welcomed in the largest crowd in franchise history with 5,850 fans in attendance.
Mavericks fans were ready for a great evening of hockey, and even the Cutthroats scoring first only 1:46 into the first period could not damper the excitement. Team Captain, Sebastien Thinel, was quick to answer back with his own lamp-lighter, assisted by Evan Vossen and Andrew Courtney.
John-Scott Dickson continued the excitement in the first period with a quick shot past Cutthroats' net minder Kent Patterson. Andrew Courtney scored an unassisted goal to give the Mavericks a 3-1 lead, but Vincent Arseneau was determined to make a game of it and brought Denver within one with just over a minute left in the first period.
Period two was dominated by the high energy of two teams looking to take control of the game, and the Mavericks came out on top with goals from both Andrew Courtney and Sebastien Thinel, putting Missouri ahead 5-2, and tow Mavericks within one goal of a hat trick.
The game had racked up only two penalty minutes before the third period, but a scuffle between Michael Trebish and Evan Vossen warmed up the penalty box for five minutes apiece for fighting before Mike Ramsay (slashing) and Robin Suodek (too many men) saw time in the sin bin.
Andrew Courtney would lock in the 6-2 win and a hat trick for the Mavericks with three minutes remaining in regulation.
Courtney, MVP and number 1 star of the game, sites his success tonight to the great on-ice chemistry he has developed over the past few years with Sebastien Thinel. "I always know where he is, he always knows where I am, and things happen when there is great chemistry." Courtney also notes that new line mate Eric Castonguay has quickly proven himself on the ice. "with guys like that on your line, all you have to do is give them the puck, keep your stick on the ice and they find you."
The Mavericks undefeated streak extends to 6-0-0 with this 6-2 win over the Denver Cutthroats.
The Mavericks play their next game on Friday, November 8 at home versus the Wichita Thunder at 7:05pm. With season tickets starting at just over $11 per game and FREE parking, the Mavericks are the pinnacle of family affordable entertainment.
