(Reading, PA) - The Trenton Thunder (35-23) fell victim to the Reading Phillies (31-26) again on Tuesday night, falling 4-2 at FirstEnergy Stadium in Reading, Pennsylvania. Derrick Mitchell, whose walk-off single won Monday's game, hit a two-run homerun in the ninth to give the R-Phils the win. Cody Johnson hit his eleventh homerun in the loss for the Thunder, who have now lost back-to-back games for the first time since late April.
After Reading grabbed the early lead on Monday night, the Thunder would strike first against the R-Phils Tuesday. Ray Kruml led the game off with a double to right field and was brought home two batters later on a Bradley Suttle sacrifice fly to give Trenton the early 1-0 lead. In the fourth, the Thunder would add one more to their total when Cody Johnson lined a solo homerun onto the roof of the Reading Eagle Company Pavilion in right field.
However, for the second-straight night, the Thunder were unable to hold onto a late lead as Reading was able to score two late runs and to tie the game. The score was tied 2-2 heading to the bottom of the ninth inning, and Derrick Mitchell would play the hero role for the second straight night. With no one out and a runner at second base, Mitchell smacked a two-run, walk-off homerun to left field to give the R-Phils the 4-2 victory.
The Trenton Thunder continue their four-game series with the Reading Phillies Wednesday night at 7:05 PM from FirstEnergy Stadium. LHP Shaeffer Hall (5-3, 3.53) will get the pearl for Trenton, while the R-Phils will counter with RHP Austin Hyatt (5-4, 3.57). Tune-in to the game from Reading, PA on 91.3 WTSR-FM and on trentonthunder.com. The SBLI Pre-Game Show with Hank Fuerst begins at 6:50 PM.
