August 4, 2010 - United League Baseball (ULB)
Coastal Bend Thunder News Release
Coastal Bend Thunder started off great, but couldn't seem to keep their eye on the win. Mike Goss started the second half of the 1st inning with a double and was then batted in by Leivi Ventura to score the first run of the game. The WhiteWings answered with a run in the 3rd, one in the 4th, and 2 in the 5th, making the score 4-1. Thunder tried to regain their momentum in the bottom of the 5th when Lammar Guy hit a double, followed by Mike Lewis with a single. Guy was then batted in by Mike Goss to make the score 2-4. But in the top of the 6th inning, the Thunder seemed to watch a win slip through their hands. WhiteWings scored 6 runs during this inning, making the score 10-2. They then scored 2 more runs in the top of the 7th, 12-2. In the bottom of the 8th, Thunder started making moves. Leivi Ventura hit a single, followed by another single from Alex Fernandez. Newcomer Paddie Matera hit a single, so the bases were loaded when Lammar Guy was walked, allowing Ventura to score. With Kevin Butler up to bat with the bases loaded again, his fly ball sacrafice allowed Fernandez to run in. The score was now 12-4 and this was the last time Thunder would get on the board as the WhiteWings scored once more in the top of the 9th making the final score 13-4. Jake Liedka was the starting pitcher for the Coastal Bend Thunder and pitched for 5 innings. In the top of the 6th, Johnny Montoya pitched, but after runs were scored and a long inning was occuring, Hunter Haggarty came to relieve him. Hunter pitched until the top of the 9th inning, when Ron Fenwick closed the game.
