
Thunder Rolls Into Playoffs

August 30, 2009 - Robstown, TX - The Coastal Bend Thunder, in their inaugural season, clinched a playoff birth tonight even though they lost, 5-4 to the Laredo Broncos when the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings lost 8 - 4 to the San Angelo Colts.
The Thunder hosts a home playoff game Tuesday against the San Angelo Colts at RMB Fairgrounds Field at 7:35pm. Tickets go on sale at 9am at RMB Fairgrounds Field for reserved, general admission and Suites.
Former W.B. Ray and San Diego Padre pitcher, J.J. Trujillo will take the mound for the Thunder in game 1 of the 3 game series. Game 2 and 3 move to San Angelo and are set for Wednesday and Thursday in if necessary. Frank James will pitch game 2 for the Thunder and if needed, another former W.B. Ray pitcher Toro Trevino will pitch game 3.
"This is a big accomplishment making the playoffs in our first year," said Thunder GM C.J. Bauer. "Then to have a local product, J.J. Trujillo on the mound for our first playoff game, this is storybook. We want to thanks all of our loyal fans who never gave up on us and invite everyone out to the playoff game. We need to pack the park Tuesday and cheer these guys on as they try to bring a Championship to the Coastal Bend.
