Amarillo Dillas News Release

AMARILLO, TX - After thirty-five years of entertaining crowds, meeting Presidents, enshrinement into baseball's Hall of Fame, and countless cameos in commercials promoting America's favorite brands, there are plenty of cities on "The Famous Chicken's" all-time favorite list of places to visit, including Amarillo.

Prior to last week's visit, Amarillo was number four on the list but after another crowd of over 7,000 plus fans, the Dillas received word last Friday that the small West Texas town had officially moved up to number three. With the recent move up the ladder, Amarillo is now only behind Salt Lake City and Indianapolis.

"As a chicken, I've winged the continent to get to a lot of ballparks in my time. I've worked more pro stadiums from top to bottom, inside and out, backwards and forward, than anyone in the game", Ted Giannoulas said. "And while it's vogue to attend and rate major league parks, the real truth is that the prime seats are unavailable to a visiting baseball affectionado. Chances are you'll have to take in your experience from seats in the next zip code. Not so in the minors. If you should ever plan a diamond trek in the future, try a venue in the minors".

Three out of the last four years have produced sell-out crowds on Chicken nights with a running total of 29,096 fans coming out to watch "The Famous Chicken" entertain families and most likely the only thing that kept 2009 from being another sell-out crowd, was due it being a school night which had never been the case before.

"The crowd we witnessed the other night is a true testament not only to the popularity the Famous Chicken still has after some thirty-five years, but also to our fans", Dillas General Manager Mark Lee said. "The only day that our fans wouldn't show up to see him (Famous Chicken) is probably Christmas and even then it wouldn't surprise me if we would sell-out", added Lee. "We've accomplished a lot here (Amarillo) in the last four years including several awards, but to now be number three on the all-time list speaks volumes about this city, our fans, and how important baseball is to Amarillo".

The Dillas conclude their last four-game road trip of the regular season tonight when they try to earn a series-split with a victory over Edinburg. Tonight's first pitch is scheduled for 7:00pm and fans listen to each game of the series by visiting the Edinburg Roadrunners' website at www.roadrunnerball.com.
