Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release

San Angelo - The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings ended the regular season by surrendering four runs in the eighth inning to break a tie and lose 8-4 to the San Angelo Colts tonight at Foster Field.

With the game tied 4-4, Nick Mahin led off the bottom of the eighth inning with a walk against Jose Fragoso (1-2). Travis Calloway singled, moving Mahin to second. One out later, Ronnie Gaines hit a ground ball to short that could have been an inning-ending double play, but Joaquin Rodriguez dropped the ball as Mahin scored. After Hunter Jobes walked, Selwyn Langaigne hit a pinch-hit two-run single, moving Jobes to third. He scored on a wild pitch to make it 8-4.

The WhiteWings (39-41) got on the board right away against Caleb Rodgers when Agustin hit his second home run of the season, both of which have come in this series, to make it 1-0.

Jose Torres led off the second with a bunt-single and stole second. One out later, Sandy DeLeon singled, moving Torres to third. Rodriguez hit a two-out RBI-single, his 100th hit of the season, to make it 2-0.

Brian Nichols reached on an error by second baseman Richard Paz to start the third and scored on a double by Rico Santana to make it 3-0.

The Colts (48-32) responded against Carlos Artiles in the bottom of the third. Gaines led off with a single and Paz drew a one-out walk. Bryan Frichter became the first player to hit a home run against Artiles this season to make it 3-3.

DeLeon led off the fourth with a single against Jacob Ramos. Two outs later, Melo singled to right-center, and the ball was kicked by right fielder Nick Mahin, allowing DeLeon to score to make it 4-3.

Mahin led off the bottom of the sixth with an infield-single and Calloway bunted him to second to knock out Artiles. Fragoso allowed an RBI-single to Charley Belew to make it 4-4.
