Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release

August 31, 2009

Harlingen - United League Baseball announced today that, if the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings make the playoffs, they will remain in San Angelo for the first round (best-of-three).

The WhiteWings are half of one game behind the Coastal Bend Thunder, who play in Laredo tonight at 7:35 p.m. If the WhiteWings win in San Angelo tonight at 7:05 p.m., and the Thunder lose, the WhiteWings will pass them (currently half of one game back) to clinch the fourth and final playoff spot. The WhiteWings would take on top-seeded San Angelo in the first round, with all three games occurring at Foster Field at 7:05 p.m. September 1-through-3 (if necessary).

Should the WhiteWings advance to the United League Championship (best- of-five), they will host games one and two at Harlingen Field on September 4 and 5.

United League Baseball also announced that Coastal Bend and Amarillo will not make up their remaining game. They were rained out in Amarillo on August 9 and 10, but only one of the games was made up because their last meeting of the season was on August 11. Since the WhiteWings and Thunder can no longer finished tied in the standings, Coastal Bend can clinch the fourth and final playoff spot with a win or a WhiteWings loss.

The WhiteWings are members of United League Baseball, an independent league of six professional baseball teams located in Texas. In its fourth season, the United League is gearing up for the playoffs with teams located in Amarillo, Edinburg, Harlingen, Laredo, Robstown and San Angelo.
