San Angelo Colts News Release

San Angelo, TX - The Colts pounded out 13 hits while starter Chandler Barnard pitched seven innings of two-run ball in a 12-3 win over the Laredo Broncos on Wednesday night at Foster Field.

The Colts garnered the first two runs of runs of the game in the first inning on a wild pitch that scored leftfielder Isaac Garcia from third, which was followed by a bloop RBI single from designated hitter Jason Crosland to give San Angelo an early 2-0 lead.

However, the Broncos would immediately respond with two runs of their own in the second on a solo-homerun by designated hitter D.J. Dixon (4), his second homer in as many nights, and an RBI single by leftfielder Doug Thennis to tie the game at two.

But the Colts would take the lead for good by scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the second on a sac fly by Garcia, then rightfielder David Cardona scored on a throwing error on Laredo third baseman Johnathan Cisneros to give the Colts a 4-2 lead.

They would add four more runs in the third on an RBI singles by Cardona and shortstop Butch Ballez, and a bases-loaded walk to centerfielder by Ronnie Gaines as the Broncos used three pitchers to get through the frame. San Angelo would extend their lead with a single run in the sixth on an RBI single from catcher Trey Carter.

The Colts would add to the onslaught with three more runs in the seventh. Gaines singled in a run, first baseman Josh Collazo hit a sac-fly, and Crosland doubled in a run to make the score 12-2.

The Broncos would add a meaningless run in the eighth on a double-play ball by rightfielder Carlos Arroyo for the final count of 12-3.

Ballez led the way for the Colts by going 4-5 with a double, three singles, two runs and an RBI. Crosland went 2-5 with a single, double and two runs driven in, while Gaines also drove in two runs by going 1-3 with a single, two walks and two runs scored. Laredo was led by second baseman Jason Diaz and shortstop Ryan Flynn each of whom had two hits on the night.

Chandler Barnard (6-2) pitched another beauty to pick up the win, going seven innings and allowing two runs on six hits with five strikeouts. The loss befell starter Robert Roth (1-3) of the Broncos who went 2.1 innings allowing seven runs on five hits.

The Colts and Broncos will resume their series Thursday at 7:05. Southpaw Logan Williamson (0-1, 6.01 ERA) will pitch for the Colts against Jeff Jamnik (3-2, 3.95 ERA) for the Broncos. Thursdayday will also be Thirsty Thursday as all draft beers will be on sale for only $1 presented by Miller Lite. Furthermore, Thursday will be the night of the Jersey Auction to benefit the Concho Valley Partnership. Colts players will wear Hawaiian jerseys for that evening's game, which will be auctioned off on the field event after the game. The broadcast of the game begins at 6:50 with the Kemps' Pregame Show and can be heard on 1260 KKSA.
