
Roadrunners defeat Amarillo

EDINBURG, Texas---The Edinburg Roadrunners defeated the Amarillo Dillas 3-0 behind a strong performance by Jose Pablo Oyervidez Tuesday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. With the win, Edinburg (38-23) extends their lead to three and a half games over Amarillo (37-29) in the United League standings.
Oyervidez (1-0) pitched six scoreless innings scattering two hits and striking out seven.
The ball game remained scoreless until the bottom of the fifth. Osiel Flores started the inning with a single to left field. After moving to third on two ground outs, Flores came into score on a passed ball giving the Roadrunners the 1-0 lead.
Ricardo Serrano and Rey Silva combined for a scoreless seventh and eighth innings.
Robert Matlock started the bottom of the eighth with a walk and then moved to third on a single by Felix Molina. One out later, Ambiorix Concepcion hit a two-run single scoring Matlock and Molina extending the Roadrunners lead 3-0.
Julio Castro pitched a scoreless ninth for his league tying 14th save of the season giving Edinburg the 3-0 victory.
The Roadrunners and Dillas play the second game of their four-game series Wednesday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Tim Haines (4-6) is expected to face Taylor Allen (1-2) with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
