Streak Snapped at the Hands of the Dillas

EDINBURG, Texas---The Edinburg Roadrunners three-game winnings streak was snapped after a 17-5 loss at the hands of the Amarillo Dillas Wednesday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

With the loss, the first place lead for Edinburg in the United League standings is now two and a half games over Amarillo.

The Dillas (38-29) got on the board against Tim Haines (4-7) in the top of the second. Julio Perez started the inning with a single and two outs later came into score on an RBI single by Rob Recuenco giving Amarillo the 1-0 lead.

The Roadrunners (38-24) answered back in the bottom of the second against Taylor Allen (2-2). Ambiorix Concepcion led off with a walk and then came into score on an RBI double by Wilson Batista. After moving to third on sacrifice fly, Batista came into score on an RBI ground out by Alexis Hernandez giving Edinburg the 2-1 lead.

Joaquin Rodriguez tied that game at two in the top of the third with his fifth home run of the season. Carlos Figueroa followed with a double to deep center field. With two outs, Stephen Douglas hit an RBI single scoring Figueroa making it 3-2 Dillas.

With the bases loaded in the top of the fourth, Sam Palace hit a three-run double. One out later, Rodriguez hit an RBI single to right field that allowed Palace to score from third. Perez then hit a two-out RBI single scoring Rodriguez and extending Amarillo's lead 8-2.

In the top of the fifth, the Dillas got another run on the board after a throwing error allowed Douglas to score from third making it 9-2 in favor of Amarillo.

The Dillas added two more runs in the sixth, three in the seventh and three in the eighth extending their lead to 17-3.

In the bottom of the eighth, Felix Molina hit his fifth home run of the season making it 17-4 Dillas.

Edinburg added a run in the ninth with a home run from Hereaud but Chris Nyman got the final three outs to end the game giving Amarillo the 17-5 victory.

The Roadrunner and Dillas will play the third game of this four-game series Thursday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Wardell Starling is expected to face Ronald Lowe with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
