
Thunder Czuy, Nickerson, Wild Assigned From Springfield

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, the proud ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Edmonton Oilers and American Hockey League's Springfield Falcons, has announced right winger Kelly Czuy (CHOO-ee), defensemen Cody Wild and Matt Nickerson have been reassigned to the Thunder from to Springfield.
Adding another forward and two defensemen to the Thunder roster, all three players have combined for 184 games of AHL playing experience and should be available to suit up for the Thunder's next game this Friday at 7:30 p.m. (StocktonThunder.com) against the Ontario Reign at Stockton Arena.
Originally recalled on Dec. 31, Czuy has appeared in four games with Springfield, totaling five penalty minutes. In 16 games this season, he has scored six points (2g-4a) and totaled 14 penalty minutes for Stockton.
The 6-foot-2, 205-pound forward is currently under contract to Springfield and in 30 career AHL games with Springfield, Iowa and Manitoba, he has collected four assists and notched nine penalty minutes.
Czuy has suited up in 170 career games as a pro in five seasons (2005-10) with the Thunder, Las Vegas Wranglers, Springfield, Iowa and Manitoba, scoring 80 points (33g-47a) and posting 220 penalty minutes.
Wild, 22, was selected by Edmonton in the fifth round (140th overall) of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft and has tallied 14 assists and 24 penalty minutes from the blueline in 37 games this season with Springfield.
The 6-foot-1, 205-pound defenseman scored a goal and added two assists in six games for the Thunder last season and in 109 career AHL games, spanning three seasons (2007-10), he has scored 35 points (5g-30a) and posted 74 penalty minutes.
Wild skated in 100 career games for Providence College (NCAA) in three seasons (2005-08), amassing 16 goals, 57 points (16g-41a) and 80 penalty minutes. He led all Providence College defensemen in scoring his last two seasons and enjoyed a career-high 22 points in 32 games as a 2007-08 junior.
Nickerson, 25, is currently playing under an NHL contract to Edmonton and was selected by the Dallas Stars in the third round (99th overall) in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. This season, he has skated in 14 games for Springfield, collecting an assist while posting 29 penalty minutes.
The 6-foot-4, 235-pound defenseman also suited up in 40 games for the Iowa Stars in 2006-07, amassing 97 penalty minutes while collecting three assists. That same season, he appeared in 13 games with the Idaho Steelheads, adding a goal and an assist with 73 PIM's.
Nickerson has additionally spent three seasons (2005-06, 07-09) in Europe with Ilves and Assat of SM-Liiga in Finland and Malmo of HockeyAllsvenskan, registering 31 points (11g-20a) and 555 penalty minutes in 120 career games.
He also skated in 48 games for Victoriaville of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League in 2004-05, scoring 12 points (1g-11a) with 182 penalty minutes and notched 14 points (5g-9a) and 179 PIM's in 38 college games with Clarkson University (NCAA) in 2003-04.
A two-time recipient of the ECHL "Award of Excellence," the Thunder was voted "Best Local Sports Team" by readers of the San Joaquin Magazine, has led the ECHL in attendance for four consecutive seasons and drew 223,854 fans to Stockton Arena in 2008-09.
