Chiefs Make Trade With Toledo

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - The Johnstown Chiefs announced today that they have acquired Jordan Morrison from the Toledo Walleye in exchange for defenseman Chris Zarb.

The 6-0, 190-pound forward from Uxbridge, Ontario, is in his second season of professional hockey. He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the seventh round (#222 overall) in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. Through 45 games with the Florida Everblades, Morrison registered 20 points (7G, 13A), 39 penalty minutes, and posted a minus-13 rating. In a prior transaction, Morrison was traded from Florida to Toledo in exchange for Dominic Osman.

Morrison burst onto the ECHL scene in the 2008-09 season with the Wheeling Nailers. He finished second on the club with 74 points (26G, 48A) which were good for eighth in the league overall and second among rookies. Morrison would finish second in rookie of the year balloting to teammate Bryan Ewing who led league rookies, and the Nailers, with 91points (43G, 48A). Morrison made his pro debut in 2008 on an ATO with the Texas Wildcatters and notched three points (1G, 2A) in four regular season games. In 16 playoff games between Wheeling and Texas, he has 10 points (5G, 5A).

Prior to turning pro, Morrison spent four seasons with Peterborough, where he was a teammate of Trevor Hendrikx, and two seasons at Dalhousie University (AUS). His best season was in 2005-06 when he finished third on the team in scoring with 68 points (31G,37A) in 67 games. All told, Morrison would compile 261 points (101G, 160A) in 312 amateur games Originally acquired from Gwinett in exchange for future considerations on November 12, 2009, Zarb produced 24 points (8G, 16A) in 36 games for the Chiefs. He currently ranks 10th among ECHL blueliners with 27 points (8G, 19A). Morrison is expected to be in the lineup when the Chiefs travel to Kalamazoo on Friday, February 12, 2010.
