Adirondack Thunder News Release
Manchester, NH - The Adirondack Thunder dropped their third straight contest to the Manchester Monarchs, this by a 3-2 final in overtime at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, NH.
Adirondack got the scoring started 5:40 into the first period as Dana Fraser went in alone on Doug Carr and buried his shot on the blocker side for the 1-0 advantage. After some nice work along the boards from Alex Carrier and Gunnar Hughes jarred the puck free, Fraser walked down the slot and went backhand to forehand for the goal, his seventh of the season and his third in as many games against Carr. Hughes and Carrier each collected helpers on the play, their fifth and seventh of the season respectively.
The Thunder added a second before the midway mark of the opening period as they capitalized on a Monarchs penalty for their first power-play goal of the weekend. Patch Alber collected the puck at the point and fed Michael Kirkpatrick at the top of the left hand circle, where the Thunder's leading scorer walked in a picked his corner on Carr for his 15th goal of the season. Alber and fellow blueliner Ryan Constant collected the assists on the play, the 18th of the season for Constant, tying him for the team lead.
Manchester got on the board late in the second period as Marc Anthoine scored his third of the season with the Monarchs to make it a 2-1 game headed into the second intermission. Manchester controlled the puck in the offensive zone, highlighted by a nice play from Maxim Kitsyn, and Anthoine got to Joe Diamond's rebound at the back post and put it home for the goal. Kitsyn and Diamond collected the helpers on the play, the 15th of the season for both skaters.
The home side tied the game at two less than seven minutes into the final frame as the Monarchs capitalized on a fortunate bounce to bang the puck past Simpson and knot the score at 2-2. As Manchester moved the puck into the offensive zone, Austin Block's pass was blocked away by Adirondack defenseman Joe Faust, but the redirect went right back into the path of Block, who beat Adirondack netminder Kent Simpson for the goal. Block's goal, his third of the season, was assisted by Danick Paquette and Matt MacKenzie.
For the second time in three nights, the game would head to overtime. The Monarchs capitalized on an odd man rush just 1:41 in asMacKenzie used Diamond as a decoy and fired a wrist shot past Simpson for the 3-2 win. The Monarchs regained sole possession of first place in the East Division with the win, one point ahead of Adirondack.
The Thunder return to the Civic Center for a pair of home games next weekend with the Reading Royals on Friday and Saturday evening, with both games slated to begin at 7:00 p.m. Friday evening is Faith and Family Night, highlighted by a post-game concert by Driven 11.
