Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release
LAST WEEK'S RECAP
Overall Picture: The Greenville Swamp Rabbits (20-17-6), proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack, gained four points in four games last week and maintains fourth place in the South Division as the club enjoys its All-Star break through Thursday. Greenville is one point behind South Carolina for third in the division, but currently holds a playoff spot with a four-point cushion over Reading in the Eastern Conference.
The Swamp Rabbits opened the week in successful fashion when goaltender Allen York put on a clinic and stopped all 31 shots he faced en route to a 1-0 whitewash of Atlanta on Monday afternoon. It was Greenville's second shutout of the season and the ninth of York's professional career. Offensively, Scott Fleming netted the only goal with a rebound tally at 5:30 of the third period.
The Gladiators got revenge on Tuesday when their top line of Derek Nesbitt (1g, 3a), Thomas Frazee (1g, 3a) and Garry Nunn (2g, 2a) accounted for 12 of the team's 17 points in a 6-2 Swamp Rabbits loss at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena. Michael St. Croix and Justin DaSilva found the score sheet for Greenville, while Atlanta's Kent Patterson made 31 saves for his team-leading 12th win of the season.
The Swamp Rabbits dropped their second straight game on Friday with a 6-3 setback to the Evansville IceMen, in a contest that included the first professional hat trick from defenseman Chris Rumble. On the flip side, Greenville's Troy Donnay, Vinny Saponari and Richard Nejezchleb each lit the lamp, but it wasn't enough as the Swamp Rabbits also fell to 10-9-5 on SANDLAPPER Securities Rink.
Greenville concluded its busy week on Saturday when the squad grinded out a 4-3 victory at South Carolina in front of 10,350 fans. Bretton Cameron led the charge with a season-high three points (1g, 2a), including the game-winning goal, while Joey Holka also collected a career-high three points (1g, 2a) on the night. With the win, the Swamp Rabbits improved to 4-1-0 against the Stingrays this season.
