PORTLAND, Maine - A fielding error in the second inning by Brandon Wagner gave way to the only run Saturday night as Thunder bats stalled in a 1-0 loss to the Portland Sea Dogs at Hadlock Field.

Portland's Luke Tendler led off the bottom of the second with a double to right-center off Shawn Semple (0-3). After a strikeout, Tendler advanced to third on a groundout before scoring on a groundball that Wagner misplayed at first base.

Semple went on to turn in a respectable start, striking out seven and walking none over five innings while limiting the Sea Dogs (29-33, 56-73) to four hits.

Sea Dogs starter Konner Wade (5-4) outdueled Semple, scattering four hits across seven scoreless innings and allowing just one runner past first base. The right-hander retired 15 of the last 17 Thunder batters he faced.

In the top of the eighth, Ben Ruta grounded a two-out single to right field off Portland reliever Eduard Bazardo and stole second base but was left stranded. In the ninth, Sea Dogs closer Dedgar Jimenez issued a two-out walk to Wagner, placing the tying run aboard for the Thunder (33-31, 71-59), but Kyle Holder flied out to left field to end the game.

Holder had hit a two-out single in the fourth inning, extending his on-base streak to 13 games.

Thunder right-hander Brady Lail tossed two scoreless innings in relief of Semple and Daniel Alvarez pitched a scoreless eighth, giving the Thunder bullpen 14.1 consecutive innings of scoreless relief.

Your Thunder continue their road trip on Sunday at 1 p.m. against the Sea Dogs. RHP Rony Garcia (3-11, 4.63) will start for the Thunder, and RHP Denyi Reyes (7-11, 4.09) will go for Portland. Pregame coverage begins at 12:45 p.m. on 920 AM The Jersey or online at TrentonThunder.com/Broadcast.
