Victoria Royals News Release
Victoria, B.C. - Bailey Peach, Gannon Laroque and Tarun Fizer of the Victoria Royals were announced as recipients of multiple BC Division awards at today's WHL Draft Lottery.
Laroque took home the BC Division Defenceman of the Year Award after recording 51 points on 10 goals and 41 assists over 63 games this season.
He also was named as a First-Team BC Division All-Star alongside teammate Bailey Peach, who enjoyed a monster season on the Island, leading the team with 78 points on 37 goals and 41 assists.
Forward Tarun Fizer was chosen as a Second-Team BC Division All-Star after putting up 17 goals and 34 assists for 51 points in 35 contests during the 2021-2022 season.
All three Royals also collected hardware during the team awards celebration held last week, with Fizer earning the Enex Fuels Most Valuable Player Award, Peach winning the The Keg Fan Choice Award and the Mayfair Optometric Top Scorer Award and Laroque taking home the Wilson's Transportation Top Defenseman Award.
Fizer and Laroque were also named co-recipients of the Royals Gablecraft Homes Most Dedicated Player Award at the ceremony.
Laroque will be the only player of the trio anticipated to return for next year as both Peach and Fizer have aged out of junior hockey following the end of the season.
The Edmonton, AB recently received a call up to the San Jose Barracuda, where he will spend the remainder of the spring before heading to the San Jose Sharks NHL camp at the end of the summer prior to heading back to Victoria for the 2022-2023 season.
Meanwhile, Peach is slated to move on to Acadia University where he will appear as a member of the men's hockey program while working towards a business degree.
Finally, Fizer recently signed a deal to join the Utah Grizzlies-the ECHL affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche-where he is expected to contribute to their playoff race this spring.
"This is well deserved recognition for Tarun, Bailey and Gannon. All three of them are consummate team players and model citizens who work tremendously hard at their chosen career path of becoming professional hockey players," said Dan Price, head coach of the Victoria Royals. "They are emblematic of what it means to be a Victoria Royal and it was great to see their hard work paying off with excellent 2021-22 seasons. The Royals staff and players, and the organization as a whole, are extremely proud of them and I know the Royals fans are too. All three players represent the Royals organization and the City of Victoria with great effort and class both on and off the ice."
