Everett Silvertips News Release

EVERETT, Wash. - Everett Silvertips forward Jackson Berezowski has been named the U.S. Division's Most Sportsmanlike Player at the Western Hockey League Division Awards held Thursday afternoon.

Berezowski ('02) is in his first season as co-captain of the Everett Silvertips, accruing just 23 penalty minutes in 62 games played. In four seasons, Berezowski has never been assessed more than 24 PIMs in a single campaign.

"If you look at how Jackson plays and where he scores his goals, it's amazing how little time he spends in the penalty box," praised Silvertips head coach/general manager Dennis Williams. "For as hard as he plays and getting to those areas on the walls, the blue paint, and when you tie in his 46 goals, that's pretty impressive. He's a complete warrior. He's a battler and a leader. When he's on his game, guys follow. I can't say enough about what he's meant for our program."

On top of his captaincy duties, Berezowski was a leader with his play for the Silvertips this season, leading the team with 46 goals- one off the franchise's single-season record. His eight-game goal streak from Dec. 8 through Jan. 15 ranks as the second-longest in the WHL this season, behind only Arshdeep Bains of the Red Deer Rebels who ended the season on a nine-game streak. Berezowski had a penchant for the clutch in 2021-22, racking up nine game-winning goals (T-third-most in the WHL) and seven insurance goals (T-most in the WHL).

Berezowski was given the F.I.E.R.C.E. Predator Award at the Silvertips Team Awards Ceremony on Apr. 8, an honor bestowed upon the player that best exemplifies Fearless, Inspirational, Enthusiastic, Relentless, Courageous and Exceptional play as voted on by the Everett Hockey Booster Club. Previous winners include Mitch Love, Radko Gudas, Gianni Fairbrother and Dustin Wolf.

"He plays an honest game, and he plays a disciplined game," Williams added. "It's pretty remarkable to say the least, and it's part of the reason he's one of our leaders and co-captains."

With the Division Award in hand, Berezowski is now a finalist for the WHL's Brad Hornung Trophy for Most Sportsmanlike Player.

The Western Hockey League last awarded the Brad Hornung Trophy in the league to Spokane's Eli Zummack. It marked the second straight year the honor had been given to a U.S. Division player, with Portland's Seth Jarvis winning in 2019-20.

About the Brad Hornung Trophy

Noted for his talent, desire and sportsmanlike attitude, Brad Hornung is revered in Western Canadian hockey circles. The Brad Hornung Trophy for Most Sportsmanlike Player is awarded annually to the player that best combines those same attributes.

A rising star for the Regina Pats, Hornung's career was cut short after the forward was paralyzed from the waist down following a hit in a game on March 1, 1987.

Since then, Hornung's courageous attitude and inspirational message of perseverance has kept his connection with the game of hockey strong. A former amateur scout for the Chicago Blackhawks, Hornung has become a staple in hockey rinks throughout Saskatchewan. His No. 8 jersey has been retired by the Pats.
