Moose Jaw Warriors News Release
Five Moose Jaw Warriors are being recognized for their amazing seasons.
Denton Mateychuk and Brayden Yager were named East Division award winners as the Western Hockey League announced its 2021-22 Division Award winners on Thursday.
Mateychuk, Jagger Firkus and Carl Tetachuk were also named to East Division all-star teams.
"We would like to congratulate Denton, Brayden, Carl and Jagger for their accomplishment," Warriors general manager Jason Ripplinger said. "This a great day for them and our organization, not only have they excelled on the ice, but they've also excelled being a Warrior."
Mateychuk was named the East Division's Defenceman of the Year and also secured a First All-Star Team nod after posting 13 goals and 64 points in 65 games this season.
The 2022 NHL Draft prospect also served as a captain for Team White at the 2022 CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game last month.
Yager captured East Division Rookie of the Year honours after putting together a season that saw him register 34 goals and 59 points in 63 games.
The Saskatoon product set the Warriors' franchise record for goals by a 16-year-old, breaking a 38-year-old record previously held by Theoren Fleury.
Firkus and Tetachuk were named to the East Division's Second All-Star Team.
Firkus was the Warriors' leading scorer with 36 goals and 80 points in 66 games this season.
He also took home Player of the Game honours at the 2022 CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game after scoring a goal and two points in the draft eligible player showcase.
Tetachuk earned Player of the Year honours with the Warriors after putting up a career-high in goals against average at 2.82, save percentage at 0.913, wins with 29, games played with 53, minutes played with 3,023 and saves at 1,497.
The 20-year-old netminder also tied his career-high with three shutouts.
Mateychuk and Yager will now be nominees for the league awards on June 1.
The Warriors open the playoffs coming up on Friday when they take on the Saskatoon Blades at Mosaic Place.
Tickets are available at mjwarriors.ca and the Mosaic Place Box Office.
