Calgary, Alta. - Connor Bedard has been named the captain of Canada's National Men's Under-18 team at the upcoming 2022 IIHF World U18 Championship, scheduled for April 23-May 1 in Landshut and Kaufbeuren, Germany.

Bedard is the only returning player from last year's Gold Medal winning team in Frisco and Plano, Texas. Canada defeated Russia 5-3 in the final to win Canada's first U-18 World Championship since 2013.

"With his experience last year it is an easy selection, but I know he will be honoured and will do a great job," Pats General Manager and Head Coach John Paddock said. "It will be a great experience and learning opportunity for him and for the Regina Pats."

The North Vancouver, B.C. native was instrumental in the gold medal win last spring, co-leading Team Canada in points with 14 (7G, 7A), despite being the youngest player on the team. He scored in the gold medal game too, dazzling with an individual effort that he finished top-shelf on the backhand to even the score in the first period. Bedard was named to the media all-star team at the conclusion of the tournament.

Bedard has also represented Canada at the U20 World Junior Championships, scoring four goals last December in two games before the tournament was prematurely cancelled.

The Pats have two players and one prospect representing the team at the U18 World Championships in Germany: Bedard, Tanner Howe and Matthew Wood.
