
Three Moves Make a Busy Sunday for the RailCats

Gary, IN - The Gary South Shore RailCats had a busy morning off the field prior to the Sunday series finale against Lincoln Sunday afternoon. The RailCats signed rookie first baseman Alex Crosby and added him to the roster and placed another rookie first baseman, Michael Schroeder on the Disabled List. The team also placed RHP Travis McGee on the Inactive List retroactive to June 8th.
Alex Crosby, is a true rookie out of Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park, Calif. In his two seasons with the Seawolves, Crosby hit .321 in 220 at bats with six home runs and 55 RBI. His best collegiate season came earlier this year when he hit .365 in 49 games with four home runs and a .514 slugging percentage. He was named to the 2015 Daktronics All-West Regional Team for his performance. The lefty bat started his career at Sonoma JC before transferring to Sonoma State before last season. Crosby is one of three Vacaville, California, natives on the 2015 South Shore squad joining Jon Jones and A.J. Quintero. RailCats Manager Greg Tagert also hails from Vacaville.
Michael Schroeder, from Crown Point, Indiana was signed by the RailCats on 8/23/14 and also is part of the RailCats rookie class. For the season Schroeder is hitting .250 with seven RBI in 30 games for the South Shore. The local product showed his versatility last Sunday, when he worked a 1-2-3 inning in relief as a pitcher in a loss to St. Paul.
Schroeder played two seasons at Lewis University after beginning his college career at Triton College. In his two seasons at Lewis Schroeder was a dual threat with a career ERA of 3.32 in 119.1 IP with a 12-6 record and added a .336 batting average with 79 RBI and 12 long balls at the plate.
RHP Travis McGee has made four starts for the RailCats this season posting a 4.50 ERA in 22.0 IP. McGee from Brea, California pitched at Chapman University in college and spent four games with the RailCats last season and was with Windy City for three.
The RailCats will continue their current six game home stand Sunday with the final game of the three game series against the Lincoln Saltdogs. The club will enjoy an off day on Monday before hosting Fargo-Moorhead in a three game series Tuesday-Thursday.
