
Blasters Swing Past Wichita to Close Series

Wichita, KS-The Blasters bounced back quickly from a blowout loss Saturday night to post a rousing 6-2 victory Sunday afternoon at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.
With the win, Joplin (21-11) took four of five in the series at Wichita. After three scoreless innings to start the contest, the Wingnuts (19-16) produced the game's first run in the fourth. With one out, Joash Brodin coaxed a walk. Brodin later reached second with a stolen base. With two outs, John Nester brought in Brodin as he belted a ground rule double to deep center that one-hopped and went over the fence.
The Blasters squared the game in the sixth. Leading off, Gabe Suarez doubled up the right field line. Maikol Gonzalez moved Suarez to third with a sacrifice bunt. With two outs, Yasser Gomez then singled up the middle to tie the game.
Joplin took control the very next inning. Omar Luna walked to lead off the seventh. Mitch Glasser was attempting to bunt Luna up to second when he reached on a throwing error by the pitcher. Jesus Solorzano then stepped up and crushed a ball to deep right-center that bounced up against the fence and scored both runners for a 3-1 lead. Solorzano scored to make it 4-1 when Oscar Mesa grounded a ball to third with two outs that was bobbled and ruled an error. The Blasters gave up a lone run to Wichita in the bottom of the seventh that cut the lead to 4-2. Joplin scored two more in the eighth on a Solorzano double that was scorched to deep left.
On the mound for the Blasters, Sam Agnew-Wieland posted the win in relief. Agnew-Wieland (2-0) worked two innings and gave up one earned run on three hits with two strikeouts and one walk. Wichita starter Scott Kuzminsky suffered the loss. Kuzminsky (2-2) lasted six innings and yielded four runs (two earned) on six hits with one strikeout and one walk. Winston Abreu earned a five-out save as he came on in the eighth. Abreu gave up two hits but struck out two.
Joplin and Wichita each had nine hits in the game. Jesus Solorzano finished 2-for-4 with four RBIs and a run scored. Carlos Ramirez had two hits as well. In his first game after serving 16 days on the disabled list, Yasser Gomez collected two hits with an RBI. For the Wingnuts, Luis Hernandez and T.J. Mittelstaedt both had two hits.
Joplin continues its nine-game, eight-day road swing with a four-game series in Laredo. Game one is Monday night at Uni-Trade Stadium. First pitch is set for 7:30.
