Laredo Lemurs News Release
Laredo, TX - The Laredo Lemurs (19-16) third baseman Juan Silverio hit a grand slam home run to give them a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the sixth as they went on to beat the Grand Prairie AirHogs (13-21) 6-4 on Saturday night at Uni-Trade Stadium.
AirHogs starting pitcher Brett Wallach was pitching lights out baseball against the Lemurs until there were two out in the bottom of the sixth. That's when Abel Nieves drew a walk that started a game-winning rally for the Lemurs. After the Nieves walk, Denis Phipps stepped to the plate and singled to put runners at the corners. Then Kevin Taylor walked to load the bases. Silverio then stepped up to the plate and, with a driving rain and gusting wind blowing out to left, drove the ball over the left field wall to give the Lemurs a 4-3 lead.
The Lemurs would score two more runs in the game in the bottom of the seventh to extend the lead to 6-4.
Luis Pollorena (1-0) earned the win for the Lemurs as he went one and a third with a strikeout after starting pitcher Scott Garner left the game.
Brett Wallach (0-3) took the loss for the Airhogs as he went five and two thirds giving up four runs on six hits with two walks and eight strikeouts.
Lemurs closer John Brebbia picked up the two inning save for his fifth of the year as he got the last six outs of the game, adding three strikeouts to bring his impressive total of 29.
The Lemurs will take on the AirHogs tomorrow night for the series finale at 6:00pm at Uni-Trade Stadium.
