Three Honkers Named All Stars

(Rochester, MN) - The Rochester Honkers have three players representing the team at the 2012 Northwoods League All Star Game in Madison, WI on June 24th. Outfielder Dakota Smith (Kansas), first baseman Trevor Podratz, (Hawai'i) and left-handed pitcher Jared Miller (Vanderbilt) were voted in by coaches and members of the media this week.
Smith, an outfielder from Leavenworth, KS, is hitting .336 with four homeruns and 24 RBIs in 36 games this season. In his last eight games, Smith is batting at a .353 clip with a homerun and ten runs scored. Smith is the Honkers leader with 16 stolen bases, two triples, 48 hits, and 71 total bases.
Podratz, the big power-hitting first baseman, is hitting .285 with eight homeruns and 30 RBIs in 36 Northwoods League games. Podratz is the Honkers leader in homers, RBIs, and hit-by-pitches with ten. In the last ten games, the Temecula, CA native has two bombs and 11 runs driven in.
Miller, an Avon, IN native, has a 2-1 record in four starts with a 2.37 ERA. The tall lefty had his best outing on July 2nd in Thunder Bay, Ontario when he tossed 7.0 innings of one-run baseball against the Border Cats. Miller walked just two and struck out eight batters to earn his second victory of the summer as the Honkers won 3-2.
When asked what his thoughts were about being selected for the team, Dakota Smith responded, "I'm excited. I wasn't really expecting it so it's pretty cool. I've never been chosen for an All Star Team before so it's a pretty big deal for me."
The 2012 Northwoods League All Star Game will be played on July 24th following the Dane County Regional Home Run Derby at the "Duck Pond." The Home Run Derby begins at 6:00 PM and the All-Star game will start at 7:35PM.
