Alexandria, Minn -- Real men wear pink. That was evident as the Alexandria Beetles hosted the Mankato Moon Dogs in a recent Northwoods League baseball game. It was paint the park pink night at Knute Nelson Memorial Ballpark, and the park was pink indeed.

The Beetles players and coaches donned pink jerseys; fans came out wearing pink, and the bases even had a shade of pink to them as well. All of it was to promote breast cancer awareness, and help join the fight against breast cancer by raising money for research.

The hot items at the ballpark were the pink pin-striped Beetles jerseys that were worn by the players and coaches during the game. The jerseys were available for sale by way of auction, and Beetles fans took full advantage. The auction was a huge hit, as every jersey was sold. Some jerseys went for over 200 dollars. The proceeds from the auction went directly to breast cancer research.

There was also a silent auction of baseball memorabilia ranging from signed baseball cards from players in the major leagues, to signed baseballs by the Beetles. Many items sold as fans realized that their money was going toward a great cause, and a cause that needs more help to fund the research that one day may stifle the awful sickness that has taken so many loved ones around the world.

Through the jersey auction, a memorabilia auction and generous donations from the fans, the Beetles were able to raise over $2,600 for breast cancer research.
