Battle Creek Battle Jacks News Release

BATTLE CREEK, MI - The Battle Creek Bombers used a five-run seventh inning to storm back from a four run deficit and hung on to defeat the Green Bay Bullfrogs 7-6 in a wild series opener at C.O. Brown Stadium.

Dan Rockett reached all five times he came up, with a double, three singles, and a walk. He also scored two runs. Sikes Orvis tallied two hits, three RBI, and a run scored.

The Bombers entered the seventh down 6-2 and scored all five runs in the inning with two outs to take the lead. Jeremy Shay's RBI single tied the game, and AJ Spanel put Battle Creek in front to stay with an RBI single of his own. Seven of their 13 hits on the night came in the inning, and they were all singles.

A crazy top of the ninth inning capped the night. Brian Heldman came on and retired the first two men in order. After back-to-back singles, Collin Shaw lined a base hit to left. The relay throw from Colin Willis was cut off by third baseman Casey Yocum, who quickly threw to second to catch Alex Abrams off the bag for the final out of the game. The save was the first of the season for Heldman.

The two teams will square off again in game two of the series on Saturday night. Joe Battistelli gets the ball for Battle Creek. First pitch is at 7:05 E.T.
