
Three Home Runs Power Portland Over Binghamton

Binghamton, New York - Three Sea Dogs launch long balls in Portland's 9-1 win over the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (28-29). After taking the series opener, Portland remains in first place of the Northeast Division with a 36-22 record overall.
Chase Meidroth homered to extend his team-leading on-base streak to nineteen games while Niko Kavadas continues to lead the team with his tenth home run of the season. Nathan Hickey went three-for-four at the plate with a pair of singles along with his fifth home run of the season.
The scoring started early for the Sea Dogs as four runs came across in the top of the first. An RBI groundout from Chase Meidroth ignited the scoring before an RBI single from Nathan Hickey put Portland up 2-0. Niko Kavadas blasted a two-run home run to center field and with his tenth homer of the season, Portland led 4-0.
Chase Meidroth launched a two-run home run (4) to left center field in the top of the third. With his two-run shot, Meidroth extended his team-leading on base streak to nineteen games.
Phillip Sikes recorded an RBI single in the top of the sixth to extend the 7-0 lead over Binghamton.
The Rumble Ponies plated a run in the bottom of the sixth after a solo home run by Jose Peroza.
Marcelo Mayer recorded a sacrifice fly to left field in the top of the seventh to score Ceddanne Rafaela and Portland led, 8-1.
Nathan Hickey hit his fifth home run of the season in the top of the eighth inning. With his solo shot, Portland secured the 9-1 win.
Portland starter RHP Sterling Sharp (2-0, 3.63 ERA) earned the win after pitching 6.0 innings allowing just one run on six hits while walking two and striking out six. Binghamton starter RHP Jose Chacin (1-3, 5.61 ERA) was issued the loss after pitching 1.0 inning allowing four runs on three hits while walking one and striking out one.
The Sea Dogs return to Mirabito Stadium tomorrow, June 14, 2023 for game two of a six-game series against the Binghamton Rumble Ponies. First pitch for game two is slated for 6:35pm. Portland will send RHP Wyatt Olds (0-2, 9.25 ERA) to the mound while Binghamton will start RHP Luis Moreno (3-2, 5.82 ERA).
