Aberdeen IronBirds News Release

August 30, 2005 - The Aberdeen IronBirds (24-42) missed out on a golden opportunity for a winning homestand as they again fell to the Staten Island Yankees (47-20) by the score of 7-2. The IronBirds got on the board first in the bottom half of the first inning after Mark Fleisher drove in Bobby Andrews with an RBI single.

However, the IronBirds would quickly lose the lead after the Yankees scored 5 runs in the top of the second inning off of starter David Hernandez, who suffered the loss and fell to 1-2 on the year. Staten Island would score two more in the fourth to go up 7-1.

Relief pitching once again held the opposition as Don Levinski, Russ Brocato and Winer Mendez combined to throw five scoreless innings striking out four and allowing just one hit.

Bobby Andrews and Mark Fleisher each had three hits on the evening and third baseman Rob Marconi extended his hitting streak to 9 games with a single.

The IronBirds leave Wednesday for a five game road trip before returning to Aberdeen on Monday for a two game series with Brooklyn.
