New Jersey Cardinals News Release

James Boone drove in three runs, including the game-winner in the top of the ninth, and the Williamsport Crosscutters (Pittsburgh Pirates) erased a four-run deficit in the eighth inning for a 6-4 victory over the New Jersey Cardinals (St. Louis Cardinals) Tuesday night at Skylands Park in Augusta, NJ.

The loss dropped the Cardinals to three games under .500 at 32-35 and the Crosscutters improved to 37-30. Ashley Hooks took the loss and fell to 0-1 on the season, while Kevin Miller earned his third victory in relief. Justin Vaclavik worked a scoreless ninth for his sixth save.

After starter Mitchell Boggs shut out Williamsport for seven innings, the Crosscutters finally broke through against the Cardinals bullpen to tie the score at four in the eighth. Michael Repole loaded the bases before Ashley Hooks gave up a two-run single to Boone, and a two-out RBI single to Christopher Jones.

Boones RBI double to left in the ninth off Dan Stevens put the Crosscutters up for good, and they tacked on an insurance run when Boone raced home on Kevin Richmonds throwing error.

The Cardinals took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Daniel Nelson led off with a base hit to right field and scored on Randy Roths double play grounder. Donovan Solano two-out RBI single in the fifth extended the Cardinals lead to two.

New Jersey pushed across two more runs in the seventh. Yonathan Sivira led off with a single to center and stole second base. One out later, Nelson lined his second base hit of the game to center field to score Sivira. Chad Gabriel made it 4-0 with an RBI ground out.

The Cardinals continue their home stand Wednesday, August 31 against the Hudson Valley Renegades (Tampa Bay Devil Rays). Game time is scheduled for 7:15. Quinton Robertson (2-2, 3.38) looks to continue his season-best two-game win streak, and beat the Renegades for the second straight start. Wednesday nights game also features the New Jersey Cardinals Reading Program
