Brooklyn Cyclones News Release
Brooklyn, NY -- The Cyclones and Renegades locked up in a roller-coaster of a game on Tuesday night with the Cyclones coming out on top by the score of 8-4. Sal Aguilar (4-0) got the win after tossing four scoreless innings of relief for the Cyclones, allowing four hits while walking one and striking out two. Caleb Stewart continued to terrorize the Renegades, going 2-for-4 with his fifth home run in eight games against Hudson Valley. The Cyclones remain 2.5 games behind the Lowell Spinners in the chase for the Wild Card as both teams were victorious on Tuesday night.
Brooklyn took an early lead, scoring three in the third inning. Drew Butera singled and Greg Gonzalez walked to put two aboard for Jonel Pacheco. Pacheco responded by smashing a three-run blast over the left field wall to put Brooklyn ahead 3-0. The lead was short-lived however, because in the bottom of the frame the Renegades took advantage of an error by Dirimo Chavez and scored four unearned runs off of Brooklyn starter Waner Mateo to take a 4-3 lead. The Cyclones drew even in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single by Greg Gonzalez that made the score 4-4. In the sixth the Cyclones took the lead for good, courtesy of a Caleb Stewart solo home run which gave Brooklyn the 5-4 advantage.
The Brooklyn lead ballooned to 8-4 in the eighth, after the Cyclones tacked on three insurance runs. Stewart started the rally with a double, before Matt Anderson singled to put runners on the corners. Another double by Nick Evans plated Stewart and when Ivan Naccarata stroked the third double of the inning, two runs scored to cap the Cyclones scoring. Kevin Tomasiewicz pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to close out the Brooklyn win.
The Cyclones will close out their home schedule with a two-game series with the Staten Island Yankees beginning Wednesday night at 7:00pm. Great seats are still available and can be purchased over the phone by calling (718)507-TIXX, logging on to www.brooklyncyclones.com, or in person at the KeySpan Park Box Office beginning at 10:00 am.
