Kansas City Brigade News Release

Kansas City, Mo. (Feb. 8) - As the first week of training camp nears completion, head coach Kevin Porter and his staff moved quickly to fill the open spots on the roster. After the team released Chris Sanders and Talman Gardner on Monday, the Brigade yesterday signed wide receivers Anthony Bright (6-1, 176 lbs., Valencia CC) and Donald Hayes (6-4, 208 lbs., Wisconsin) and linebacker Joseph Oniwor (6-1, 255 lbs., Cerritos JC). Bright and Hayes will have to earn reps in a crowded corps of pass catchers while Oniwor will work primarily behind incumbent starter Byron Douzart.

Bright has two years of experience in Arena Football. He started three games for the Orlando Predators in 2004 and appeared in their playoff loss to the Chicago Rush, catching five passes for 93 yards with one touchdown. Bright also played in two games for the Philadelphia Soul in 2006. He previously played two seasons indoors for the Jacksonville Tomcats of arenafootball2 in 2000-01, totaled 121 receptions for 2,035 yards with 43 touchdowns. He set a Tomcats single-game record with 11 catches for 230 yards with six touchdowns.

Bright has spent time with two NFL teams, most recently in training camp with the Houston Texans in 2004. He signed with the Texans prior to the 2003 season and was allocated to NFL Europe. Bright went to camp with the Carolina Panthers in 2002 and was eventually signed to the practice squad. He was able to make the active roster during the 2002 season and appeared in one game.

Hayes, a rookie to Arena Football, was a fourth-round pick by the Carolina Panthers in the 1998 NFL Draft and went on to play five seasons. He appeared in 51 games for the Panthers in 1998-2001, totaling 132 receptions for 1,855 yards with seven touchdowns. Hayes played for the New England Patriots in 2002, appearing 12 games and recording 12 catches for 144 yards with two touchdowns.

He signed with the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League in 2006 and participating in the team's training camp. Hayes played four seasons at Wisconsin in 1994-97 and was Badgers leading receiver as a junior and senior when he started all 26 games. He was the sixth player in school history to record at least 100 career receptions and was fifth in career catches and yards.

Oniwor is not new to the game of Arena Football, having participated in the inaugural AFL combine. He was signed in 2006 by the Amarillo dusters of af2. A native of Carson, Calif., he played at Cerritos Junior College in 2000-01 and was listed as a 300-pound defensive tackle. Oniwor signed a letter of intent in 2002 to play at UNLV and was a two-year starter at nose guard, totaling 42 tackles, three tackles for loss and two sacks.
