
Storm sign three on defense

TAMPA BAY - The five-time world champion Tampa Bay Storm continue to add depth to the defense as they have re-signed linebacker Nyle Wiren and signed defensive lineman Ron Smith and defensive back Melvin Webber, Head Coach and General Manager Tim Marcum announced today.
Wiren, a 6-foot-2, 260-pound linebacker, out of Kansas State is a nine-year Arena Football veteran. He returns to Tampa Bay for his tenth season in a Storm uniform. Wiren, second in team history with 16 career-sacks earned All-Ironman honors in 2004. His senior year of college he garnered first-team All-Big 12 honors and received honorable mention All-America honors by Athlon.
Smith, a 6-3, 310-pound defensive lineman enters his first season in Arena Football. He signed with the Cincinnati Bengals after college in 2002 and played in eight games. Smith later signed with the Seattle Seahawks in 2004, who then allocated him to the Cologne Centurions in NFL Europe. He began his college career at Kemper Military Academy where he was a teammate of Torrance Marshall. Smith then spent one year at Baylor University before finishing up at Lane College in Jackson, Tennessee.
Webber, a 6-0, 210-pound defensive back played strong safety at Texas State and will enter his first Arena Football camp. Prior to attending Texas State, he played both wide receiver and defensive back at Reedley Community College in Reedley, California. Webber is a native of Jacksonville, Florida where he attended Englewood High School in Jacksonville, Florida.
The Storm made additional roster moves as they placed fullback/linebacker Ricardo Dickerson on the other league exempt list and added defensive lineman Howard Green and wide receiver/linebacker Lawrence Samuels on the Refused to Report list. Dickerson signed with the Oakland Raiders, and Lawrence Samuels is attending the Pro Bowl with his younger brother Chris in Honolulu, Hawaii.
The 2007 Storm Season, presented by Champs Sports, Where Sport Lives, will open March 2 with the War on I-4 against the Orlando Predators on Bill Currie Ford Field at the St. Pete Times Forum.
