Nashville Kats News Release
NASHVILLE- Nashville Kats Assistant General Manager Darryl Hammond will take his expertise to the radio booth as the color analyst for the Nashville Kats on Titans Radio in 2007.
Hammond will team with three-time Tennessee Sportscaster of the Year, the "Voice of the Tennessee Titans" Mike Keith and gameday host Larry Stone on Titans Radio's presentation of Nashville Kats Football. Keith handles all of the play-by play duties for the Titans and has been the play-play-play announcer for the Kats since 2005.
Keith and Hammond will partner up on Nashville's 104-5 The Zone as well as a network of Titans Radio stations across the region for all 16-regular season games and however many games the Kats play in the 2007 postseason. Titans Radio enters its third season presenting arena football games. The network ranks as the NFL's largest and strongest network.
"We are very excited to have Darryl as part of our team," Titans Radio Executive Producer Larry Stone said. "Just as when we added Frank Wycheck to our Titans broadcast, we looked for hall of fame quality for Nashville Kats Football on Titans Radio. Darryl certainly fits that bill - and will provide our listeners will a unique insight to the game."
After a stellar 16-year career in the AFL that saw him retire after acquiring more seasons of service than any other player in AFL history (16) and leave ranked fifth on the league's All-Time receptions list (804), Hammond joined the Kats staff as Assistant General Manager. In that role, Hammond is in the forefront of all community awareness programs, assists with the development of partnerships and ticket sales, player relations and is on-hand for day-to-day Kats operations.
Now in his new role as the team's color analyst, Hammond seems excited about the opportunity.
"With my years of playing in the AFL, I have accumulated a plethora of knowledge to share with the fans. I believe what fans will take to is my ability to really get deep in detail, be inclusive and concise while being able to project the subtleties of certain plays that take place throughout the game," said Hammond. "I believe I will bring the in-depth aspect to the casual fan, really breaking it down for them. For example, explaining that sometimes when a defensive back is beat for a touchdown, the difference between an incomplete pass and a touchdown is the defensive back crossing over instead of opening up," added Hammond.
The Kats 2007 season is set to kick-off Thursday, March 1st when the club hosts the Columbus Destroyers. Nashville will compete in the AFL's Central Division, a talent-rich division that houses the past two ArenaBowl Champions (Chicago Rush 2006, Colorado Crush 2005) and added the Kansas City Brigade in a realignment change.
