
Three Crawdads Named to SAL All-Star Team

Hickory, NC - Three Crawdads were named to the 2018 South Atlantic League All-Star Game, League President Eric Krupa announced Tuesday morning. Sam Huff, Yohel Pozo, and Tyler Phillips were all named to the SAL's Northern Division All-Star team, which will take on the Southern Division on June 19thin Greensboro.
The 'Dads had a pair of catchers, Sam Huff and Yohel Pozo, voted onto the team as the reserve catchers. Huff and Pozo have split time at catcher this season but have also gotten chances at first base and designated hitter. At catcher Huff and Pozo have each caught 20 games and have posted a .984 fielding percentage.
Huff paces the 'Dads with a team leading 18 runs scored. He is also second on the team in homeruns with 5. Huff has thrown out 27% of would be base stealers this season, which leads the three active catchers on the roster.
Pozo leads the team with 39 hits and 10 doubles. He also leads the active roster with 19 RBIs. He has excelled this season at keeping his strikeout rate low, striking out just 19 times on the season so far. He has accumulated a 9.05 total plate appearance to strikeout ratio, which is second best in the South Atlantic League and top in the Northern Division.
Right-handed pitcher Tyler Phillips also earned an all-star nod, pitching to a 3.54 ERA in 10 starts. Phillips leads the pitching staff in innings pitched (56) and strikeouts (54). He also leads the starting pitchers with a 1.16 WHIP. He has allowed one run or less in half of his starts. At home, Phillips has been among the best in the league, posting a 1.16 ERA in five starts while holding opposing batters to a .221 batting average. Phillips is third in the league with a 0.96 walks to innings pitched ratio, allowing just six walks.
The 2018 South Atlantic League All-Star Game will take place in Greensboro, North Carolina on June 19that 7:05pm at First National Bank Field, home of the Grasshoppers. All stars from the seven Northern Division teams will be taking on the best of the seven Southern Division teams in the 59thannual SAL All-Star Game.
