Raquet, Banks, Anderson Named 2018 SAL All-Stars
June 5, 2018 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Hagerstown Suns News Release
Hagerstown, MD - The Hagerstown Suns are proud to announce that pitcher Nick Raquet, outfielder Nick Banks, and manager Patrick Anderson have been named to the 2018 South Atlantic League all-star roster. The news came in the form of a press release sent by the league office on Tuesday which announced both Northern Division and Southern Division squads for the game in Greensboro, North Carolina on June 19.
Raquet, a left-handed starting pitcher, earns his first professional all-star nod after he posted a 2.54 ERA over 10 starts. The southpaw threw his fourth-consecutive game in which he threw at least six innings, allowing one run on five hits with two walks and four strikeouts against Hickory. Raquet owns the only complete game on the roster this season and is tied for the team lead in wins with three. He's leading the team in strikeouts with 48 while his 2.54 ERA is the lowest of any pitcher on the team with two or more appearances. A product of William and Mary (VA), Raquet was selected in the third round of the 2017 draft by the Washington Nationals.
Banks has played 39 games in the outfield this season for the Suns and has earned 2018 all-star honors as one of the Northern Division's utility outfielders. It's Banks' second all-star selection in his professional career after being named to the 2016 New-York Penn League All-Star team with the Auburn Doubledays. In his second season with the Suns, Banks is batting .263 and is the active team-leader in home runs with five. He's fourth on the team with 20 RBIs and tied for second on the roster with eight stolen bases. While his offense has helped the Suns, Bank's defense has been the best of any outfielder on the team. He has just one error this season between playing all three outfield spots (primarily right field) and leads all Suns outfielders with five assists and a .986 fielding percentage. Banks was the Nationals fourth-round selection in the 2016 draft out of Texas A&M.
Anderson, the Suns' manager, heads to Greensboro as a part of the Northern Division's coaching staff, skippered by Grasshoppers' manager Todd Pratt. Anderson is in his fifth season as Hagerstown's manager, owning the team's all-time record in wins and still counting. The Suns lead man has coached talents like Victor Robles, Juan Soto, and Erick Fedde all while winning 311 games entering the 2018 season. Anderson led the Northern Division All-Stars in 2017, his third time in four years, and this will be his first time as an assistant at the game.
The 2018 South Atlantic League All-Star Game takes place on Tuesday, June 19 at First National Bank Field with a 7:05 PM first pitch. For more information about the event, fans can visit https://www.milb.com/greensboro.
